RIKA is Ready for the Future: Our Stoves Meet the New EN 16510 Standard

On November 9, 2025, the new European standard EN 16510 – Residential Solid Fuel Burning Appliances will come into effect. It replaces the previous individual standards for wood-burning, pellet, and combination stoves, creating for the first time uniform testing procedures and safety requirements for all appliance types.

As an innovation leader, RIKA is well prepared – our stoves already comply with EN 16510 today.
For dealers and customers, this means: there is nothing to worry about and nothing that needs to be done.
The new standard primarily concerns manufacturers, who must meet clearly defined technical and safety requirements.
All RIKA appliances are compliant, safe, tested, and ready for the future.

What Does EN 16510 Bring?

The new standard ensures harmonized European requirements with regard to:

  • Safety distances from combustible materials
  • Emission and efficiency testing
  • Product labeling and type plates
  • Testing methods and documentation obligations

This improves the comparability between appliances and makes installation clearer and safer for dealers.
RIKA has already implemented all new requirements – all current models are tested and certified according to EN 16510.

New Type Plate – Clear and Transparent Labeling

With the introduction of EN 16510, the requirements for the type plate are also changing.
It now includes additional, standard-relevant information – in particular, the tested safety distances to combustible materials (side, rear, front, and now also upward), as well as the newly defined radiation distances dF (to the front) and dL (to the side).

All current documents and user manuals are available for download at any time on our website.

One major innovation of EN 16510 is that radiation distances to the front (dF) and sides (dL) are now mandatory parts of testing.
RIKA has successfully tested all our stoves for these new parameters – with 0 mm clearance results.
This means there is no longer any need for additional radiation protection.

Transition Period and Outlook

For our dealers and customers, nothing changes:

Until November 9, 2025, appliances may continue to be placed on the market under the existing standards.

All RIKA stoves that are delivered or placed on the market before this date remain fully approved and compliant.
Even units already in stock at our dealers may continue to be sold and installed without restriction after that date.
Starting November 9, 2025, all newly produced RIKA stoves will be supplied with the new type plate, updated test values, and revised documentation – all fully certified according to EN 16510.

The introduction of EN 16510 marks a new chapter in safe and efficient home heating.
At RIKA, we don’t just meet the requirements – we exceed them through tested quality, clear labeling, and well-thought-out documentation.
So you can focus on what truly matters:
Warmth. Comfort. Trust. – with RIKA.
